 
Overview
 Easy Index Generator provides quick and simple creation of configurable index files (files of Contents) for any files types, which can be used in CHM (HTML Help), eBooks, online Help, as Data CD menu, as a Site Map of your Website, making it easy to have an overview of the website and get the quick access to HTML pages, graphics, media files, shared documents, applications, archives etc.
The program has a visual interface, that makes it easy to design and create index files. You get the output file as you design it. You can specify the types of files that should be indexed, sort project items by moving them up and down, creating logical sections etc.
The same time you can select one of the following supported output file types:
- As a single HTML file with the list of the indexed files;
- As frameset consisting of HTML file with the frame structure description and HTML file of contents. These present the hierarchy of files in the left frame so that you can view their contents in the right frame;
- As HHC file (HTML Help Contents File) which is used in CHM (HTML Help) files. For further editing of HHC and compilation of CHM you will need the free distributed application pack "HTML Help Workshop" from http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en- us/htmlhelp/html/vsconHH1Start.asp?frame=true;
- As a combination of HHC and single HTML file of contents with placing of generated HTML file in the beginning of HHC list.
Easy Index Generator can create two types of tree menus of indexed files in a target HTML file: static menus and click-to-open menus. In static menus all sections are displayed as simple text, and all items — as simple links. When user clicks on a static menu item the linked page opens.
Click-to-open tree menus are the type used in Windows Explorer for displaying folders: they open when clicked, and remain open until clicked again. This kind of menu allows you to sort items in different logical sections which display their contents when user clicks on a section header. These tree menus work in Internet Explorer, Mozilla and other browsers. You don't need to do any javascript programming; the software does all the work.
The program allows to set different options not only to operate the creation of index files, but also to influence on program functionality. All the options are located on three separate tabs of 'Options' dialog box.
The first tab (General) contains options which are directly influencing on creation of contents files and program settings.
The second tab (Appearance) contains options which are influencing on appearance of your output files. Here you can set the font type, font color, images (can be used instead of list markers), background color, background image, frame width.
The third tab (Processing) contains options for batch processing of the indexed files. E.g. while indexing process you can automatically remove built-in iFrames (usually being used for online advertisement, calling the dial-up every time you open saved web pages on your machine), rebuild external links (making them opening in new browser window), add links on indexing pages to the generated HTML Index, etc.
All the established settings upon program termination are remembered and on the next program start are restored.
Generated files are automatically placed in the indexed folders.
